The Client: Public Health - Seattle & King County, Chronic Disease Prevention, King County Asthma Program
The Challenges:
Assess Medicaid Asthma Home Visit Project readiness for translation from research to community practice.
Our Method:
Use qualitative inquiry to report on the complex issues from stakeholder and participant points of view. Listen directly to family caregivers and children as they explain about changes they have made to their home environments and/or individual behaviors resulting from active participation in the home visiting program. Key informant interviews with community and professional stakeholders.
The Results:
Produce an evaluation report highlighting:
- What the experience was for individuals: participating in the program (parents, children), supporting the program (medical providers), and other stakeholders (health plan directors, state Medicaid officials).
- A mini-case study of lessons learned and suggestions from a major Department of Public Health that adopted components of the program.
- Program reach, effectiveness, adoption, implementation and maintenance issues (RE-AIM).
This was an additional component to an ongoing existing evaluation to assess the implementation of the Healthy Homes mode of asthma self-management support in the home for low-income families.
